Aedes mosquito( Aedes Aegypti) originates in Africa and spread throughout tropics.

Only female mosquitoes bite people. (Males feed on plant juices)

Female mosquitoes’ saliva contains anticoagulant proteins that prevent your blood from clotting to make it easier to suck your blood.

Mosquitoes can be found all over the world--except in Antarctica!

Global Warming actually causes an increase in mosquitoes.

Aedes mosquito originates in Africa and spread throughout tropics.

Aedes mosquitoes bite during the day and breeds only in clean stagnant water.

Aedes mosquitoes seem to prefer omnivorous (eats anything) blood hosts such as monkeys, apes and people.

Epidemic of Dengue tends to occur in populated urban areas instead of poor rural areas. However Malaria is the complete opposite.

Symptoms of dengue fever only appear after 3-14 days after the bite.

When having dengue fever, your platelet count will be low, so avoid aspirin and NSAIDs as it increases bleeding and even lowering your platelet count.

Hi there,

My name is Su and i am a member of TEAM4, PF06. The team has prepared and designed several survey questions for EVERYONE to participate.

Our motive is very simple. The survey questions posted is to create a public awareness with regards to dengue concerns islandwide. All the questions are open to the public for comments and we hope for a warm participation.

Welcome to our blog!

We're a group of students studying in different polytechnics in Singapore, and this blog is part of our project for the Polytechnic Forum 2006.

About our team:
We consist of 12 students aged 17-20 and we represent the five polytechnics in Singapore. Our sub theme is on Global Health Threats and our subsub theme (this is a bit confusing but stay with me here) is on Dengue Fever.

We set up this blog in hopes of informing the public, especially youths like us, about the dangers of dengue fever. But this isn't going to be boring, cos we'll wat views from you too!

Our project for Polytechnic Forum (PF) 2006 is to allow youths to know more about dengue, and how they can protect themselves, so stick with us and we promise this educational journey would be fun and enriching.

About PF06:
Polytechnic Forum is an annual event held for youths from polytechnics to come together and tackle topics that concern our nation. This event would be organised and hosted by Republic Polytechnic this year and would bring together 400 teenagers to express their views and present to ministers about current affairs here at home.
